Hi - I'm Alastair.
About two years ago I started talking to anyone who would listen about generative AI (mostly on LinkedIn). I’m passionate about challenging people to think about what they do and how they do it to see if AI can either improve outcomes or make life easier (double points if it does both…).
As with all things the first hurdle is giving it a go.
I trained as a teacher and then did an MSc in Psychology – and to top that off I put £50k of student debt and five years study to good use by getting a job in B2B sales – if I can do it you can too.
Why should you care?
In Higher Education...
I’ve trained and spoke to over 3000 university staff across the country. I’ve worked with stakeholders at all levels at one of the UK’s largest universities on policy, strategy and operations. Throughout the last year I have been published multiple times and I’ve spoken at national and international conferences. I also chair a practice and scholarship group for AI and have edited a special AI edition of the working paper series ‘Meeting new challenges in education’.
In Industry...
I’ve been through the Microsoft founders program with my AI training startup PACT that was then merged within the first 12 months having also been featured by Times Higher Education. I sit as a non-executive director for multiple ed-tech AI firms advising on commercial strategy. My most recent venture – VMAI – has provided training for SME’s as part of the HM Government Midlands engine scheme. VMAI has also worked with student founders to provide scaling and integration advice. Alongside training I give talks to both private and public sector bodies.
